Little Miss Wheelchair Texas 2014

Chloe Short – Little Miss Wheelchair Texas 2014

2014_little_miss_wheelchairChloe was born in Richmond, Virginia in April 2003. She was born with a condition called Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita, which causes limited range of motion in her joints and weakness in some of her muscles. Due to the severity of her condition, Chloe has used a power wheelchair for mobility since the age of two. In 2008, Chloe and her family moved to Spring, Texas, and Chloequickly became a proud Texan. On any given day, Chloe can be seen driving around in her pink power chair sporting a personalized Texas license plate with a big smile on her face!

Chloe is an honor student at Tom Cox Intermediate in Spring, Texas. She is a junior in her local Girl Scout troop and enjoys being involved in her local church. Chloe loves to swim, and she’s crazy about penguins. Upon entering 5th grade, Chloe declared she wanted to play in the school band, but there was a problem. Because of the physical limitations due to her disability, there was not an instrument that Chloe was able to play. However, Chloe has always had a “can do” attitude, knowing she can do anything – she just needs to figure out her own unique way of doing it. Not to be discouraged, Chloe began to pursue her dream of playing in the band. Chloe now plays the euphonium, which has been adapted with switches that allow her to activate the valves. She is an independent and enthusiastic participant in her school band.

Chloe loves meeting new people and making friends. Her motto is “I’m just like you, with wheels!” As Little Miss Wheelchair Texas, she is excited about sharing how determined and capable children with disabilities are. It is her heart’s desire to build bridges between people with disabilities and the community at large.
