2016 Ms. Wheelchair Texas Sandy Spoonemore

Sandy Spoonemore was born in Agana, Guam but considers Texas home after residing in Plano, just north of Dallas, for over 35 years. Many have said she was born to change lives, she defies limitations and uses her joyful personality, sense of humor, and emotional intelligence whether she is selling Mary Kay cosmetics or convincing the federal legislature to help increase the employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Whether she’s facing a group of ten or a thousand, she’s comfortable, informed and inspirational. With a BBA from Baylor University, Sandy entered corporate America where she worked for Fortune 500 companies until 2001. Saying goodbye to business suits, Sandy traded in her corporate job to become an Independent Sales Director with Mary Kay Cosmetics and has 16 years of building her career. Throughout Sandy’s career, she has been honored with many awards recognizing her work ethic, innovation and marketing talents; the most prestigious being The Entrepreneur of the Year from the governor of Texas.

Sandy has traveled across the world, her favorite destination is Sydney, Australia, where she volunteered for the 2000 Paralympic Summer Games. She feels ready to help others find a more fulfilling and enriched life, no matter their physical challenges.

Sandy was diagnosed with a form of Muscular Dystrophy called Spinal Muscular Atrophy at the age of 2 and has used a wheelchair her entire life. Her platform as Ms. Wheelchair Texas 2016 is quite simple, to encourage individuals, families, companies and the great state of Texas that everyone has value and everyone has a purpose. We will Defy Gravity together! Her favorite quote is “Thank you, God, for your big dreams. Keep them coming!
